The Ghana National Council has realized many wonderful accomplishments since its beginning as a small student council in the 1960’s. However, I believe the Council’s greatest achievements are still in its future. For that reason, I am very pleased to share our Vision: “Achieving More Than Imagined,” our plan guiding us to #GhanaHouseChicago.
This plan requires true community-wide collaboration – including input from a very capable committee– as well as representatives from the Ghana National Council. I am eager to begin the exciting work to make our goals a reality.
For this year we have scheduled two Health and Wellness Fairs, Two Townhall Meetings, Back to school and youth Conferences, volunteering at Feed the Hungry, and participation at the Heritage Pavilion at the African Festival of the Arts. In addition we will celebrate our 62nd Ghana Independence and 31st GhanaFest™️ Celebration.
This years’ proceeds from our events will go towards the construction of the “Ghana House”. The GhanaHouse has been a part of the GNC mission for 30 years and it’s time to lay the foundation. The GhanaHouse will be a community center where people of the diaspora can use as a place to hold organization meetings, after school tutoring, special event hosting (Funerals, Birthdays, Outdooring), health fairs, financial literacy classes, immigration information, and more.
Indeed, this is a very exciting time for the Ghana National Council. As the mouthpiece of the Ghanaian community, we are designing our vision to meet the future needs of our youth and families both here and in Ghana.
We appreciate the continuous community support and we are enthusiastic for what 2019 will reveal.
