Investigations reveal first year boarding students paying hostel fees due to inadequate accommodation

GBC’s Radio Ghana can report that authorities of some Senior High schools are compelling some parents to pay between GH¢400.00 and GH¢700.00 as hostel fees for first year students.

There is chaos in some Senior High schools as many first year students have not been admitted as boarding students due to inadequate accommodation.

As a result, parents are torn between the option of renting rooms near the schools or having to pay exorbitant lorry fares for their wards to go to school from home on a daily basis.

Radio Ghana has gathered that some teachers and other school authorities are cashing-in on this and are demanding money from parents to either offer them beds in boarding houses or hostels.
