The Member of Parliament, (MP) for Oforikrom, Dr. Emmanuel Marfo has advocated the intensification of counseling in public universities to help curb the frequent suicide cases in tertiary institutions.
He said provision of timely access to counseling services and ensuring safe environment in schools can help address the menace.
Dr. Emmanuel Marfo stated this when he made a statement on the floor of Parliament on suicide on university campuses.
The MP for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin called for the promotion of effective students-lecturers relationship on campuses to ensure that symptoms that could push students into killing themselves are identified on time and addressed.
The Minister of Education and MP for Manhyia South, Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh said steps are being take to revive the career guidance and counseling centres across the country to help address the suicide incidents among students.
