A bankroller of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ken Ofori-Atta, who took over the responsibility of repaying a two-million Ghana Cedi loan facility the party obtained from the Prudential Bank to finance its failed 2012 general electioneering campaign has been appointed as Finance Minister designate. Mr. Ofori-Atta, a former Chief Executive Officer of Data Bank, in May of 2015 said that the loan was a private business transaction obtained by him and not a debt for the NPP to deal with, even though the NPP was the final beneficiary. Ofori stepped down as head of Data Bank and played the role of the NPP’s Director in-charge of fund-raising during the 2016 general and presidential elections.

He is also a cousin to President Nana Akufo-Addo.

He will replace Mr. Seth Terkper who served under the immediate past administration. Announcing his appointment at the Flagstaff House, Nana Akufo Addo described Mr. Ofori Atta as someone who has the “capacity and insight to move modern economies”. Mr. Ofori-Atta has rich experience in finance and administration.
