U-17 WWC: Black Maidens beat USA

Black Maidens beat USA BY 2-1
The Black Maidens of Ghana defeated their American counterparts by 2-1 in the second group stage match to gain three maximum points at the King Abdullah Stadium.

The Americans scored in the first five minutes of play through Frankie Tagliaferri and constantly piled pressure on the Ghanaians till the first half ended with just a goal.

Back from recess, the Black Maidens tactically lifted their play and dominated every department the game till they got a fast break which was excellently pulled out by Adizatu Kubrah Mustapha, and was clinically headed behind the USA goalie by Gifty Acheampong on the 63rd minute.

In the last fifteen minutes of play, the game tilted in favour of the Black Maidens till Mustapha was placed on the lines once again by captain Osei Owusu and once again, she gave another pullout but the ball was handled in the penalty box by defender Alexa Spaanstra of America leading to a penalty in favour of the maidens.

Captain Sandra Owusu Ansah was nominated to take the spot kick and she fantastically placed the ball to increase the tally by two in favour of the Ghanaians in the 84th minute.

The game travelled the full length with five minutes of time added on but the scoreline stayed as such.

The Black Maidens are now third on the table with three points with a game in hand against Paraguay on Saturday at the Al-Hasan Stadium.
