Emergency Food Box Assistance in Chicago

Low-income families who suffer a sudden financial setback may find themselves without enough to eat. Free emergency food boxes for individuals and families are available at DFSS Community Service Centers or by calling 3-1-1.

Emergency Food Boxes contain nutritious staples like canned tuna, peanut butter, rice, beans, soup, cereal, canned fruits and canned vegetables. Food boxes serve as a one-time, intervention measure. DFSS case workers work with families to help them secure daily, stable nutrition.

Clients must present proof of income and explain why they need emergency provisions. People with disabilities or those unable to travel to a Community Service Center, can request delivery of a food box by calling 3-1-1.
