“Head for carrying load” books approved in 2011 – Author

The Education Ministry has beaten a sharp retreat regarding the use of a natural science book for lower primary pupils, describing the head as a part of the human body for carrying load.

The depiction has drawn widespread condemnation from some Ghanaians and academics.

The Ministry in a statement Monday indicated that the publication by Quarm Publications limited has not been approved.

But the Author Albert Joseph Quarm hit back at the ministry stating that the book was approved by the Ghana Education Service in 2011 for use by pupils and teachers.

Mr. Quarm in an interview with Starr News said he is being victimized because of his affiliation with the opposition NPP.

“…I have everything, [this book] has been approved…is it because I am an NPP parliamentary candidate elect because I have done this business for 22 years, I have helped Ghanaian students and they are really doing well,” Mr. Quarm said.

The Ghana Education Service has, however, confirmed that Mr. Quarm’s book has been approved for use as supplementary materials by pupils and teachers.

The Education Ministry has also revised its position that the publication by Mr. Quarm has not been approved.

Public Relations Officer of the Ministry clarified that the Natural Science book has not been adopted by government for use as textbook.
