Edubiase gets new stadium as boxing gym takes off in Accra

President Mahama has revealed that Government is set to construct a new ultra-modern sports stadium at New Edubiase in the Ashanti region.

Delivering the State of the Nation Address Thursday, President Mahama said the sports ministry has completed drawings for the construction of the new sports stadium.

“In addition to the construction of the Cape Coast stadium, which has been completed, we have completed the drawings and bills of quantities for the construction of the New Edubiase Sports Stadium,” Mahama said.

President Mahama has added that a pending ultra-modern boxing complex will be commissioned at Korle Gonno in Accra central.

The complex which is being funded by the Social Security National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) will train boxers and also host major boxing events in the country to encourage both individuals and institutions to partner existing bodies to support the sport.

The likes of D.K. Poison, Azumah Nelson, lke Quartey, Alfred Kotey, Ebo Acquah, Nana Yaw Konadu, Joshua Clottey, Joseph Agbeko et al have placed Ghana on the world boxing map.

“In sports we are adding new facilities and anytime soon, I will be handing over the newly built Cape Coast Stadium to the Sports ministry and for boxing the commissioning of the boxing complex will be this year,” he added.
