All the passengers onboard the Yeji- Makonga ferry, which sank on Wednesday evening have been rescued by a naval detachment, President John Mahama has disclosed.

It is believed that there were about 500 passengers involved.

The pontoon which was traveling from Makongoa to Yeji started tumbling on the river around 6pm.

In a tweet, Mahama said the cargo vehicle which was also being cart by the ferry has been salvaged.

The boat was carrying traders who were returning to their homes after trading on the other side of the river.
