A 41-year-old unemployed resident of Zagyuri near the 6th Infantry Battalion (6BN) Barracks within the Tamale Metropolis has committed suicide with a locally manufactured pistol.
Richard Kwame Kwakye, who reportedly shot himself at the lower part of his left chest in an uncompleted building in the neighbourhood, died on the spot and his body was discovered early Tuesday morning by some residents.
The locally manufactured pistol used in committing the act and five live cartridges were also retrieved from the scene of the crime, according to the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) ASP Ebenezer Tetteh who confirmed the incident to starrfmonline.com.
According to him, neighbours of the deceased last night confirmed hearing an unusual sound from an uncompleted house in the area, but felt part of the walls had broken down because of a heavy downpour.
It was until Tuesday morning they discovered the lifeless body of the 41-year-old and lodged a complaint with the police who visited the scene and spotted the deceased with penetrating wounds from the lower part of his left chest.
ASP Tetteh, who suspects murder instead; disclosed that further investigations would be conducted to establish circumstances surrounding the death. The body has since been deposited at the Tamale Teaching Hospital Morgue pending autopsy.
