The New Juaben Municipal Police Command in the Eastern region has arrested a 41-year-old farmer, Kwaku Larbi, for allegedly killing his wife, Comfort Obiri, 40, over a meal.
The suspect is alleged to have beaten his wife to a pulp for failing to cook supper for the family, after he gave her GHC10 for the meal.
The suspect and the deceased who have six children together were married for 25 years.
The incident occurred at Nkurakan on December 23, 2014 but the suspect escaped the law by leaving the community.
He was later found and arrested at Akwaduuso, a farming community in the Atiwa District.
Starr News Eastern Regional correspondent, Kojo Ansah, gathered from members of the community that the man was infuriated when he arrived home to find his six children eating Banku and pepper without fish.
“The suspect was informed his wife had left the house to a friend’s house so he followed her up and when he got to the destination, he saw the deceased eating a bowl of fufu with her friend. He got furious, and allegedly dragged her out into the dark and beat her to a state of unconsciousness.”
She was later pronounced dead at the Koforidua Government Hospital after she was rushed there by witnesses.
A pathology report shows that the deceased died out of severe head injury.
