Anyone willing to contest President Mahama in the upcoming presidential primaries for the ruling National Democratic Congress will have to cough out GH₵50,000 as filing fee, a 150 percent increment from the GH₵20,000 charged by the party in 2012.
The decision was reached at a meeting of National Executive Council (NEC) members of the party Thursday afternoon.
The General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia who made the announcement said, the party has resolved to slash the filing fee by 50 percent for prospective candidates who are women or physically challenged.
Meanwhile, women and disabled persons who wish to contest the upcoming parliamentary primaries of the NDC are to pay 50 percent of the fixed filing fee of Gh¢10, 000.
Nketia popularly known as General Mosquito added that the decision taken by the leadership of the NEC is to encourage more women and disabled people to pick up forms.
Filing of nomination forms for the primaries will open on August 27 and ends on September 10.
