$10k winning bonus of the Black Stars unpaid
Two months after thumping Mauritius 7-1 in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Accra, the Ministry of Youth and Sports cannot tell exactly when they will settle the $10,000 winning bonus of the Black Stars.
Winning bonus owed the Black Stars for beating Togo in a friendly game, a week before the AFCON 2017 qualifier against Mauritius is also yet to be paid.
The spokesperson of the ministry, Otor Plaha has told Ultimate FM in Kumasi that the delay is not the fault of his outfit.
“As at now we have written to the Ministry of Finance. I don’t know why they are delaying. Our job at the sports ministry is to facilitate the payment but we don’t pay the money. So until the finance ministry releases the money, we can’t tell you when they will be paid,” Plaha said.
Meanwhile, the minister for youth and sports said he cannot comment on the issue.
“I have nothing to tell you about Black Stars’ bonuses. I’m happy to discuss the other numerous issues the ministry is facing,” Dr Mustapha Ahmed said.
