A gang of masked armed robbers on Friday evening embarked on a robbery spree at the Kwarbeng-Anyinam road in the Atiwa District in the Eastern region, shooting some passengers who attempted to escape.
The passengers who sustained gunshot wounds have been hospitalized at the Engresi Government Hospital.
The bandits mounted road block on a portion of the Kwarbeng to Anyinam road which aided their operation. According to one of the victims, Emmanuel Kudjo, a driver, the incident occurred at 7:30pm on Friday.
He said the robbers stopped as many as seven vehicles and ordered everyone on board at gunpoint to surrender their belongings and to lie down. He added the passengers who were hesitant were flogged by the armed robbers.
The armed robbers shot twice at a vehicle whose driver attempted to escape leading to some passengers sustaining gunshot injuries.
The robbers fled the scene before the police arrived.
According to Starr News’ Eastern regional correspondent Kojo Ansah, the brigands are believed to be the same gang which struck three months ago in the same area killing two persons, a driver and a Chinese miner.
