Twenty-six protestors who demonstrated against the demolition of Old Fadama popularly known as Sodom and Gomorrah have been arrested by the Police.
Greater Accra Regional Police PRO, ASP Effia Tenge who confirmed the news said the suspects have been sent to the Accra regional Police Command for interrogation.
Over one thousand homes were destroyed in the shanty community last Saturday rendering scores of people homeless. The exercise is expected to continue until the entire slum is completely demolished.
The affected individuals Monday June 22 took to the streets to protest against the move which is being spearheaded by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA).
The protestors blocked roads with stones, burnt car tyres and besieged the State House where they vandalised some vehicles, flower pots and peeled off the coat of arms.
