CHICAGO — Men posing as home repairmen are scamming elderly residents of Lakeview, police said.

At 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 1600 block of West Barry Avenue, the men stole a wallet from a 68-year-old woman’s vehicle after approaching her and saying that they could fill in holes in her home’s foundation, according to a police alert.

In an incident at 2 p.m. on Dec. 18, three men got into a 91-year-old woman’s home in the 3400 block of North Paulina Street.

The group said they were electrical workers performing a service check. One of the men distracted the woman while another took cash from her purse.

The suspects are described as white men in their 30s.

Police say that suspects in these cases usually drive pickup trucks or work vans with removable business placards. Police suggest that residents request identification and confirm service calls.
