CHICAGO — With more snow and ice on the way, the office of Ald. George Cardenas (12th) is encouraging seniors to take advantage of the ward’s service van.
The van can be used to shuttle seniors and other residents around during severe winter weather and to jump dead car batteries. Ward workers can also spread salt on front sidewalks, shovel snow and check on neighbors.
“From the end of December through now, more and more of our constituents are starting to see the van out there. They’re starting to call our office and neighbors are telling each other about it,” said Cardenas spokeswoman Anabel Abarca. “Any time we go shovel snow or spread salt, people are giving us the names of seniors to go check on.”
The city can expect about three inches of snowfall late Tuesday afternoon, according to a National Weather Service spokesman. Tuesday’s high is expected to be 25 degrees with a low of 8 degrees, according to the spokesman.
After that, forecasts call for more snow on Wednesday with temperatures plummeting later in the week.
Residents looking to schedule van service can call 773-523-8250 . Or they can reach out via the 12th Ward Facebook page or Cardenas’ personal Twitter account.
