Call to serveWe came across this profile of Mr. and Mrs. Abbeyea in the Infant Jesus Of Prague Parish, IJF,(Catholic Church) newsletter and wish to share it with our audience. The parishioners are mostly white.
We have been parishioners at IJP for nineteen years. Our service to the church as usher, lector, member of the Parish Pastoral Council, School Board Advisory and volunteer for the PADS Program. We both serve on the To Teach Who Christ Is Campaign which involved securing funds for the Church as well as many programs for the churches school.
The Parish Pastoral Councils grew out of Vatican II. The council exercises shared responsibility for the pastoral life of the parish, with an emphasis on its primary role of carrying out the parish’s spiritual mission, under the leadership of the pastor.
Some ways for the council to do its work include:
- Helping to identify the present needs of the parish
- Suggesting practical ways to address those needs
- Inviting and supporting new initiatives
- Recommending new programs that will fulfill the Church’s mission and address local needs
As volunteers for the Lord and church, we feel a strong sense of belonging within the Church and the community. God has blessed us so much and we are indeed thankful. Our faith to God always leads us to help, love and serve. We believe as Christians there is nothing greater than doing God’s work wholeheartedly, Mr. Abbeyea affirmed.
Mr. John Abbeyea also served the Ghanaian Community as a member of the Ghana National Council for many years. He rose to the position of Vice President under Mr. Clement Timpo. He has since been serving the community in many ways.
We love reading the Bible together, and our verses of choice are John 15 9-10 “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love.”
