The Ewe Association’s End of Year Celebration has become customary under the Presidency of Steve Dei, which many Ghanaians in the Chicagoland look forward to every year.
This Saturday, December 28th, was the last one under his administration for 6 years as the President of the Ewe Association.
This year was a departure from the usually paid event to a free for all party.
The evening was full of fun, music was provided by DJ Teddy, catering of food by Amazing Grace Catering Services ( Mama Awushie/Evelyn Sedodo) Photography by Emefa Hadzide, decoration by Daa Sika. The emcees were EmpressMawu Si and Steve Dei whilst the drinks were donated by male members of the association.
The event which normally attracts not only Ewes in the Chicagoland was attended by Naa Ahiu Ama-Choa Ablade, the Ga Manya of Chicago and the elders of the GaAdagme community, Kofi Nii represented the Fante Benevolence Society, Mr. Benjamin Kodum-Ayensu, President of BA Assoc of Chicago, Mr. Joe Dansu, President of Okyeman Assoc. of Chicago, Naa Dede Amobiaye and Nii Adjei Zodi I of Wogbe Jeke Assoc of Chicago, Miss Francee, President of the Assoc. of Togolese Community in Chicago with her VP Koku and a host of Execs, just to mention a few.
The VP of Ghana National Council, Mr. Kassim Abubakari delivered a Good Will New Year message on behalf of the President Mr. Paa Kwasi-Sam, who made it to the event later in the evening.
In his speech, he called for unity amongst the Ghanaian community and encourage every Ghanaian to get involved in shaping the future of the Ghanaians here in Chicago by actively participating in all activities of the council.
He emphasized that, much as we want all Ghanaians to attend functions like Ghana’s Independence Celebration to be held March 7th and the Ghanafest on July 25th-26th, they should also take time to attend council meetings, which is held every 1st Sunday of the month and share ideas and offer suggestions to help move the community forward! “ Together we can finally achieve our dream of having a community center for our beloved community “ he appealed.
He thanked Mr. Steve Dei for his leadership and hopes the next President will continue with the good work done thus far.
He ended by thanking the Ewe Association for hosting festive celebrations that most Ghanaians look forward to every year.
Mr. Steve Dei also thanked the leadership of the GNC and all gathered for their support over the years, most especially the executives of his administration, the hard-working VP, Mr. Philip Sananou and all members of the Association for the privilege and honor done him to have led and served the Ewe Assoc for the last 6 years.
He wished the same support for the incoming administration and wished everyone a safe and Happy New Year.
The night continued with eating, drinking and dancing till 2 am.
