Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed on to eternity on Friday September 18 2020 from “complications of pancreatic cancer.

Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. issued a statement that “Our nation has lost a jurist of historic stature,” he continued by saying “We at the Supreme Court have lost a cherished colleague. Today we mourn, but with confidence, that future generations will remember Ruth Bader Ginsburg as we knew her — a tireless and resolute champion of justice.”

Her passing gives president Donald Trump the opportunity to nominate a replacement for the majority held Republican Senate for confirmation.

In similar circumstances in 2016, the majority Republican-led Senate refused to consider President Barack Obama’s nominee. The Senate Republicans refused to call for a hearing on President Barack Obama’s nominee, Judge Merrick B. Garland, saying that holding hearings in the last year of a president’s term would deprive voters of a role in the process.

She was appointed to the court by then-Democratic President, Bill Clinton in 1993. Justice Ginsburg was a shining light of American democracy and justice, a relentless champion of equality and the rule of law, and a bold and relentless voice for progress and for the Constitution, whose life’s work made America reach further towards its founding ideals.
