Ghana’s Parliament has embarked on a week-long vetting process for President John Dramani Mahama’s ministerial nominees. The Appointments Committee, tasked with scrutinizing the nominees, will assess their suitability for various ministerial positions.
The vetting process, which began on Monday, January 20, 2025, will see a total of 24 nominees face the committee. On the first day, Kwame Governs Agbodza, Haruna Iddrisu, and Eric Opoku were scheduled to appear before the committee for the positions of Minister of Roads and Highways, Minister of Education, and Minister of Food and Agriculture, respectively.
Over the next few days, other nominees, including Ahmed Ibrahim, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, and Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, will be vetted for various portfolios. The committee will also assess nominees for regional minister positions, such as Ali Adolf G. John for the Northern Region and Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo for the Greater Accra Region.
The vetting process is expected to be rigorous, with the committee scrutinizing the nominees’ qualifications, experience, and policies. The outcome of the vetting process will determine whether the nominees are approved for their respective positions.
