My dear Comrades in Pan-Africanism, revolutionary greetings from the Pan African Pyramid family!
Today, Friday, November 1, 2024, marks 70 years since Algeria ignited a revolution for self-determination against their colonial master, France. This historic day commemorates the bravery and resilience of the Algerian people, who embarked on a journey towards freedom and independence.
The revolution began on November 1, 1954, when the Algerian National Liberation Front (FLN) launched a series of attacks on French military and police targets. This uprising, which spanned from 1954 to 1962, eventually led to Algeria’s hard-earned independence.
In a significant tribute to this monumental milestone, I, Andrew Irumba, had the profound honor of being invited by H.E. Amokrane Mourad, the ambassador himself, to celebrate with the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria at his residence. Interestingly, the French ambassador to Uganda also attended, highlighting the complex yet transformative history shared between the two nations. This gathering was more than just a commemoration; it was a powerful reminder of the enduring spirit of resistance and the triumph of self-determination.
As we stood together, hand in hand, the air was filled with a sense of unity and purpose. Ambassador Mourad, dressed in a black suit and white shirt, symbolized the formal and dignified presence of Algeria’s diplomatic leadership. Meanwhile, I wore a green attire with vibrant yellow and red stripes, celebrating the rich heritage and enduring strength of the Algerian people. The outdoor event, set against the backdrop of green tablecloths and a tent, was a testament to the communal spirit that has driven Pan-African ideals for decades.
Reflecting on the revolutionary journey that began 70 years ago, we are reminded of the sacrifices and struggles that paved the way for freedom. The Algerian revolution is a beacon of hope for all African nations, embodying the relentless pursuit of justice and equality.
On behalf of the Pan African Pyramid family, it was a privilege to stand in solidarity with Algeria, celebrating a legacy of courage and resilience. This milestone is a call to all of us to continue striving for self-determination, unity, and progress across the continent.
This celebration is not just about looking back at the past, but also about envisioning a future where the spirit of Pan-Africanism thrives. Together, we can achieve greatness.
Viva Africa, viva the great people of Algeria. Africa, Don’t Agonize—Organize!
