The Girls-in-ICT programme is currently empowering young girls across 18 districts in the Ashanti Region, including Amansie Central, with essential digital skills under the theme “Leadership” ¹. This initiative aims to bridge the gender digital gap and promote digital literacy among Ghana’s young female population.
Training and Mentorship
Participants are being trained in foundational digital skills such as:
- Computer Programming
- Game Development
- Website Development
These skills will enable them to compete effectively in the growing field of information and communication technologies. Mentorship sessions are also being provided, where women working in the ICT field share their personal life stories and professional experiences to guide the young girls in their future career paths.
Media Engagement
On October 29, 2024, Naa Korkoi Essah, Head of Public Relations at the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation, and Gerald Owusu Ansah from the Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT, engaged in a media session at DOM Peace Radio (97.5 FM) in Amansie Central. The interview highlighted the programme’s impact, training process, and participating districts, underscoring its commitment to fostering digital literacy and empowerment.
A Step Towards a Digital Future
The Girls-in-ICT programme is a significant step towards promoting gender equality and empowering young girls in Ghana. By acquiring digital skills, these girls will be better equipped to succeed in an increasingly technology-driven world.
