The Ghana Statistical Service is set to embark on its eighth Ghana Living Standards Survey, a nationwide data collection exercise spanning October 2024 to October 2025. This five-yearly survey assesses household living conditions, focusing on learning poverty, defined as children’s inability to read simple texts by age 10.
The GLSS 8 aims to provide comprehensive data on literacy, numeracy skills and learning poverty among children and adolescents. Ghana’s 2021 Population and Housing Census revealed 30.2% of those aged six and above were non-literate, underscoring the need for targeted interventions.
Key objectives include measuring monetary and non-monetary poverty, household consumption for Consumer Price Index calculations and estimating national accounts to monitor economic performance.
Approximately 25,650 households nationwide have been selected. Field personnel will reside in assigned communities, ensuring thorough data collection. All information gathered will remain confidential, used solely for statistical purposes.
Public participation is crucial. Selected households are urged to provide accurate responses, informing policy development and improving living standards.
