Ghana’s Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) supplies are expected to stabilize following the resumption of production at the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant. NPP Vice Presidential Candidate, Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh, confirmed the development at the CBOD Energy Townhall event in Accra.
The plant’s restart comes after a month-long shutdown, which left Ghana’s 10,000 metric tonnes of LPG stockpile at risk of depletion. Atuabo accounts for 50% of national demand, and its shutdown increased reliance on imports.
Dr. Opoku-Prempeh allayed fears of an imminent gas shortage, but industry expert Mr. Kumi noted that regulatory and logistical challenges persist. The resumption of production is expected to alleviate immediate supply concerns.
Ghanaians can look forward to a more stable LPG supply chain, but experts caution that long-term solutions are still needed to address underlying industry challenges.
