Ghanaians can expect significant relief from soaring food costs, according to Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Minister for Food and Agriculture. He predicts prices will drop by over 50% in the coming months due to government initiatives boosting food production and supporting farmers affected by the dry spell.
Measures include distributing 200,000 metric tonnes of fertilizer and investing $80 million in inputs to stabilize prices. The government’s efforts have already shown results, with prices decreasing in March and April.
The move comes after severe weather conditions led to food price hikes, hoarding, and inflationary pressures. A ban on grain exports, including rice, maize, corn, and soy, was also imposed to prevent food shortages.
