Chicago, Illinois, September 29, 2024 – The Church of the Ghanaian Community of Chicago at 5500 S Woodlawn Avenue was filled with joy and gratitude today as family and friends gathered to celebrate Reverend Kwasi Amponsah Yeboah’s 75th birthday. The actual milestone falls on October 1, 2024, but the early celebration was a testament to the love and respect he has garnered over the years.
The event was made even more special as Sister Adjoa Aboagyewaa Amponsah and Aunty Kate Annang joined Rev. Yeboah in celebrating their birthdays together. The largest group of visitors came from the Bono and Ahafo Association, led by President Benjamin Ayensu, their chief Nana Yaw Adu Gyamfi, elders and members .
Rev. Yeboah delivered a heartfelt sermon on the theme: “In All Things, Give Thanks to God,” drawing from Thessalonians 5 and Luke 17. He emphasized the importance of gratitude, likening it to the joy parents feel when their children say thank you. “So many things happen in our lives, especially in this city, but we are safe. Don’t take things for granted. God has done so much for us,” he preached.
He shared personal anecdotes, including the profound impact of losing his mother at 36 and outliving all his older siblings who did not reach 70. This, he said, made him deeply grateful for every day he lives. He urged the congregation to make their thanks personal and specific, quoting Ephesians 5:20: “Give thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Rev. Yeboah also highlighted the Ghanaian tradition of expressing gratitude through music, sharing his love for the gospel song “Aseda” by Nacee.
The celebration was uplifted by Maame Konadu, who delivered a powerful performance of Ghanaian gospel music, accompanied by Reverend Dexter Abankwa on the piano and James Cromwell on the drums. The congregation was moved, and the atmosphere was electric as family and friends danced and sang along.
Mr. Bennett Agyeman took the opportunity to thank Rev. Yeboah and his wife for attending their 50th marriage anniversary at Abokobi, a suburb of Accra. He expressed his hope that Rev. Yeboah’s wife would continue to be a source of his strength and joy for many more years to come.
The celebration was a beautiful reminder of the power of gratitude, community, and faith. As Rev. Yeboah concluded his sermon, he left the congregation with a powerful message: “Thank you has no expiration date. Make your thanks personal and heartfelt, and always remember to give thanks to God for His countless blessings.”
