The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has directed the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) to complete all ongoing projects in the municipality. This directive was issued by PAC Chairman and MP for Ketu North Constituency, Hon. James Klutse Avedzi, during TMA’s appearance before the PAC at its Zonal Public hearing in Ho, Volta Regional Capital.
Four projects have stalled due to inadequate funds and delayed release of the District Assemblies Common Fund. While two projects have been completed and one terminated, TMA plans to repackage the remaining project and include it in the 2025 budget.
The redevelopment of the Community Nine project, valued at GHS1.8 million, remains incomplete. PAC questioned the project’s cost, which covers constructing a fence wall around the cemetery and offices for environmental officers. Hon. Avedzi expressed surprise at the cost, asking, “How big is the cemetery, how many acres, because the cost is GHS1.8 million?” TMA officials failed to provide project details, including designs and drawings.
An audit report revealed that TMA outsourced revenue collection to Techmax, Kozan, and Q & Q. However, TMA was shortchanged, as the contractors failed to remit the agreed-upon percentages of revenue. Auditors recommended that the Tema Coordinating Director take action against TAP IN Ghana Limited and IKHAILA Enterprise to enforce debt collection and invoke sanctions if necessary.
The PAC’s directive aims to ensure accountability and transparency in TMA’s project management and revenue collection.
