After weeks of rigorous evaluation and due diligence, the Ghanaian government has shortlisted two construction firms, Broll Ltd and Quarm LMI Ltd, for final negotiations to resume work on the long-stalled Saglemi Housing Project ¹. This significant development brings renewed hope for a project that has faced significant delays and setbacks.
The project, initially contracted for $200 million to build 5,000 affordable housing units, has struggled to take off. By January 2017, only 1,506 units were completed or near completion, despite $197 million already disbursed to contractors ¹.
Out of the ten firms that initially expressed interest in partnering with the government to finish the project, five submitted bids by the July 2024 deadline. Transaction advisors Deloitte Ghana have confirmed that either Broll Ltd or Quarm LMI Ltd may be selected to complete the project after negotiations conclude.
Sector Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has assured that the government will remain focused and meticulous in the transaction. “We will select the firm with the most favourable negotiating terms,” he emphasized
The completion of the Saglemi Housing Project is expected to provide much-needed affordable housing units for Ghanaians. With the government’s commitment to transparency and fairness, the project’s revival is a welcome development for the country’s housing sector.
