Accra, Ghana – The Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison, has commissioned an ultra-modern 3-storey, 18-unit classroom block and a 3-unit nursery block for the Independence Avenue Cluster of Schools .
The facility, which replaces decades-old dilapidated structures, will benefit over 700 pupils from one of Accra’s oldest public schools, established in 1906. The Bank of Ghana funded the project, which was requested by the school’s headmistress, Mrs. Agatha Dzathor, and the then Mayor of Accra, Mohammed Adjei Sowah, in 2019.
Dr. Addison described the project as a “significant milestone” in supporting government efforts to address educational infrastructure challenges. He emphasized the importance of infrastructure in improving education outcomes and urged the school’s management and the Ghana Education Service to ensure proper maintenance of the facility.
The project includes: Classroom Facilities: 18-unit classroom block and 3-unit nursery block
Amenities: Two libraries, two science and computer laboratories, staff common room, offices, and a horticultural garden
Recreational Facilities: Astroturf playground for students and a canteen
The Governor also acknowledged the roles of key figures in completing the project, including the former mayor and headmistress, and praised the current Mayor, Elizabeth Sackey, and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly for their collaboration.
