Accra, Ghana – President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has signed the Gender Equity Bill 2024 into law. The bill was passed by Parliament in July.
The bill aims to address gender imbalances in Ghana caused by historical discrimination against women and socio-cultural systems. It seeks to ensure gender equity in the public and private sectors.
Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dakoa Newman, announced the president’s assent in a recent X post.
The bill outlines measures to increase women’s representation. Private organizations that adhere to the bill will be eligible for incentives. The bill also stipulates penalties for non-compliant entities.
Minister Newman said the bill will help achieve gender parity. The bill is now law in Ghana.
The Minister explained that the bill prioritizes women who face barriers to opportunities. The government will implement the bill to address gender imbalances.
