Accra, Ghana – In a passionate plea to Parliament, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa Member of Parliament for North Tongu warned that Ghana’s failure to combat the galamsey menace will lead to devastating consequences, including “mass burials”. The lawmaker’s urgent call to action emphasizes the need for collective responsibility and a united front to combat the illegal mining activities that are ravaging the country.

Mr OKUDZETO Ablakwa’s speech stressed that the fight against galamsey requires unwavering integrity, sincerity, and severe sanctions against the masterminds behind the destructive practice. He cautioned against the politicization of the issue, urging lawmakers to put aside partisan differences and work together to address the existential threat.

The galamsey scourge has left Ghana’s environment and water bodies severely polluted, posing a significant risk to public health and the economy. Ablakwa’s warning serves as a wake-up call for the government and citizens to take immediate action to stop the illegal mining activities and restore the country’s natural resources.

As the clock ticks, Ghana stands at a crossroads – either take drastic measures to stop galamsey or face the dire consequences of inaction. The time for blame games is over; the time for collective action is now. Will Ghana heed the warning and join forces to defeat the galamsey menace, or will it succumb to the devastating effects of this unmitigated suicidal mission? Only time will tell.
