Smoked Fish Business Hit Hard by Economic Hardship, Not Closed Season – Fishmongers

The leader of the National Inland Fishmongers for the Adabraka Market, Mamaga Delight Gifty Ameteper, has revealed that the Closed Season for fishing has not affected the smoked fish business as much as the current economic hardship in the country. Despite the Closed Season’s intention to replenish fish stocks, the demand for smoked fish has drastically reduced, leading to low market turnovers.

Mamaga Ameteper explained to Business News that the economic hardship has made it difficult for people to afford smoked fish, resulting in a significant drop in sales. She appealed to the government to supply fishermen with adequate premix fuel to help reduce the prices of fish, making it more affordable for consumers.

The fishmongers are struggling to stay afloat due to the economic downturn, and Mamaga Ameteper’s plea highlights the need for government support to revive the smoked fish industry.
