Ghana Reaffirms Commitment to Supporting Refugees, Providing Access to Education, Healthcare, and Economic Opportunities

In a ceremony marking the 2024 World Refugee Day in Accra, Deputy Interior Minister Hon. Naana Eyiah reiterated Ghana’s dedication to supporting refugees. She highlighted the country’s initiatives to ensure refugees’ access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities, aligning with the theme “Solidarity with Refugees.”

Ghana has implemented various measures to integrate refugees into society, including free education and identity cards. The government has also issued residence permits to former refugees, allowing them to live in Ghana legally.

The Deputy Minister’s reaffirmation of Ghana’s commitment was echoed by representatives from UNHCR, the Ghana Refugee Board, the German Embassy, the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, Caritas Ghana, and the Ghana Immigration Service.

The event highlighted the importance of solidarity with refugees and the need for continued support to ensure their well-being and integration into Ghanaian society. With Ghana’s commitment, refugees in the country can access vital services and build a better future for themselves.
