Sex trade: Nigerians taking over our business in Tarkwa- Ghanaian sex workers cry

Sex workers in Tarkwa of the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality in the Western Region, are lamenting over an eventual take over by Nigerian sex workers in the locality.

Some Ghanaian sex workers who spoke on condition of anonymity disclosed that about thirty Nigerian migrants have invaded their operations, mainly at Old Railway Station in Tarkwa. These sex workers, according to reports are between the ages of 15 and 35 years, and are being recruited by another Nigerian named “Shakaa”.

Sources say “Shakaa” is given a percentage of the monies her recruits make over night.

Observations are that some wooden structures have been erected along the rail lines to serve as brothels. It is reported that sex workers and other occupants are charged twenty Ghana cedi for a night in these brothels.

Due to the a perceived undesirable competition given the Ghanaian sex workers in the area, most of them have moved in to Accra, Kumasi and other towns in the country for businiess. A few others have also taken up a trade.

Nana Yaw Kumi who spoke to a trader at the station who had witnessed their operations for years.
