Ghana Meteorological Agency says it lacks requisite weather warning information alert system

The Deputy Director of Forecasting at the Meteorological Agency, Tetteh Portuphy has expressed worry about the Meteo Departments lack of a medium to disseminate information on flood warnings.

He said Meteo relies on media houses to disseminate weather warning. Also, the Agency does not have a toll free number, which makes it difficult for it to operate effectively.

Mr. Portuphy, debunked reports that the Meteo does not give accurate weather forecasts.

Mr. Tetteh Portuphy was speaking on GBCs current affairs programme, Talking Point.

The National Disaster Management Organization, NADMO says it is considering working at securing the mandate to demolish buildings.

For now, the Metropolitan Assemblies have the sole mandate to do that.

He said there seems to be some kind of politics in most cases which makes it difficult for authorities to demolish structures obstructing flow of water.

Director at the Land Use and Spartial Planning Authority, Alfred Akwasi Opoku wondered why government should come in before people move from flood prone areas.
