COCOBOD describes as worrying cocoa farmers opting for rubber plantations

The Head of Public Relations of COCOBOD, Noah Amenyah, says it is worrying that some farmers are opting for rubber plantation instead of cocoa.

He said this will affect the economy greatly considering the value of cocoa.

He told Ibrahim Kwarteng that COCOBOD is putting some interventions in place such as educating the farmers on the value of cocoa.

Meanwhile, the President of Concerned Farmers Association of Ghana, Nana Oboadea Opambuor Boateng has denied reports that some farmers are cutting down their cocoa trees for rubber plantation.

He said the farmers understand that cocoa is the primary crop that rakes in revenue for the country.

He explained however, that some people are playing on the minds of the farmers, given that they have not made much economic gains over the years, to go into rubber plantation.

In an interview with Ibrahim Kwarteng on GBC’s Current Affairs Programme, “Behind the News,” Mr Boateng threatened to tell the International Community to stop supporting Ghana with aid, if steps are not taken to protect the cocoa sector.
