Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago to Celebrate 61 Years of Independence in Chicagoland March 10th, 2018 through March 18th, 2018
“Ghana: 61 years Strong; The Celebration of Excellence; Together We Can Build our Nation”
(CHICAGO) – Ghana National Council (GNC) of Metropolitan Chicago and its Affiliates are set to celebrate their 61st anniversary of Ghana’s Independence from the British Empire in Chicago March 10th, 2018 from 7:00 pm until 1:00 am at the luxurious Chateau Del Mar, 8301 West 95th Street, Hickory Hills, Illinois. The following week, on March 18th at 2:00 pm, a joint, non-denominational Thanksgiving Service lead by the Council of Ghanaian Churches intended to bring together people of Christian, Muslim, and other faiths will be held at Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Redemption Congregation, 741 E. 84th St. Chicago Illinois..
Prayers will open the elegant evening, followed by a fashion show by Ghanaian designer Akese Stylines, a live cultural performances, awards for community members, music by esteemed trumpeter Mr. Kofi Cromwell and the “Bɛsabi Band”; and music to keep you dancing by one of Chicago’s best disc jockey “DJ Odikro”. All this entertainment is sure to make this celebration unique and memorable. A four-course meal with an open bar is nicely packaged at the affordable price of $60.00 per person. Attendees will have the opportunity to hit the ballroom dance floor to display their skills into the early morning hours. Proceeds from the celebration will go toward building a Ghanaian Community Center in Chicago, a goal set by GNC and it affiliates.
The theme of the weekend celebration is: “Ghana: 61 years Strong; The Celebration of Excellence; Together We Can Build our Nation”. Ghanaians and friends of Ghana are encouraged to show patriotism by displaying the Ghana Flag in their homes, cars, offices and workplaces from March 6th through March 12th. Thus, prompting a brief history lesson of the first African nation, South of the Sahara, to win its independence from colonial rule to their families, friends, and co-workers the relevance of Ghana’s independence to the freedom of other African countries and the black race across the globe. In addition to, how Ghana’s independence galvanized the civil rights movement in the United States.
