Former Mayor Vanderpuije consoles Adu Aboagye Family.

Chicago December 27 2017:Honorable Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, member of parliament for Ablekuma South and former Mayor of Accra, paid a courtesy call on the family of the late Mr. Adu Aboagye, who was senselesly gun down in front of his house in the wee hours of Christmas day morning. The late Mr. Adu Aboagye worked at the Northwestern Hospital, Chicago Illinois.

Hon. Vanderpuije  was on a private visit to Chicago but upon hearing the horrific news of the shooting , decided to visit with the bereaved family and commiserate with them. Hon. Vanderpuije encouraged the widow of deceased to stand firm in the Lord. Hon. Vanderpuije consoled the family with the words ,  “Our ways are not his ways and therefore be encouraged to know that the almighty one has given him peaceful resting place for your late husband”. Hon. Vanderpuije again quoted 1st Thessalonians 5:18 which admonishes us to give thanks in all circumstances to encourage the family to cope with the tragedy. Only the Lord has an answer to why this gruesome murder happened to a good man like your husband, Hon. Okoe Vanderpuije concluded. 

Hon. Vanderpuije was accompanied by Mr. Cobby Boahene, former NDC chairman for North America and Mr. Paul Sogbe , outgoing Chairman of NDC Chicago.

The family spokesperson, Nana Osei Agina , thanked Mr. Vanderpuije for taking time off his  heavy schedule to mourn with them. It is consoling to know that people of all walks of life are either calling or visiting the family to mourn with us , Nana informed the gathering.

Before leaving the bereaved family, The honorable prayed with them and asked the almighty to be a husband to the widow and a father to the children. Above all he prayed the Lord to give the dearly departed a peaceful resting place.

During the visit, the family informed Hon. Vanderpuije that since it was Christmas eve, they were up late , gathered in the family house and waiting on him to return from work. There were gun shots in front of the house and his daughter suspected that her father has been shot. She immediately informed their mother, who was also in the house at the time. Initially the mother did not believe her daughter until the police confirmed their worst fears and nightmare later. There were still blood stains on the walkway leading to the family’s home when Honorable Oko Vanderpuije visited.

The late Albert Adu Aboagye and three others were killed in a deadly shooting on Christmas weekend in Chicago this year. Albert Adu Aboagye was shot seven times in the chest and head in front of his house around 12:20 am when he was returning from work. According to the Chicago police, two males walked up and opened fire killing him on the spot. No one has been arrested so far. Other shootings in various parts of the city left 15 people severely injured. Our sources have confirmed that there are no other Ghanaian immigrants in the Chicago area among the injured.

Members of the Ghanaian community , especially the SDA church members , have been visiting with the family since the tragedy occurred . The President of the Ghana National Council , Paa Kwasi Sam on behalf of the community issued statement of condolences to the bereaved family.
