Chicago’s Ghana National Council, GNC, Forms Committee to acquire a community center.

Ramada Inn, Chicago Illinois, November 5 2017: After 20 or more years of failed attempts by the Ghana National Council, GNC, and the original funds geared towards the acquisition of a Ghana house squandered, the GNC has yet again, set up a promising committee to help the community finally acquire a community center.

The President of the council. Mr. Paa Kwasi Sam thanked members of the committee for coming forward to volunteer their services to the community. After stating the reasons why the community needs a center at this time, the President charged members of the committee to work hard and present a draft report to the council within six months.

Members of the committee are:
Mr. Clement Timpo, former President of the GNC and chairman of the committee.
Mr. Ebenezer Antwi-Nsiah, former President of the GNC.
Mr. Reuben Hadzide, Former President of the GNC.
Mr. Stephen Somuah, Elder in the Ghanaian Community and member of the GNC.
Mr. William Amattey , Attorney at law, Chicago Illinois.
Mr. Jeff Badu, CPA, Treasurer, GNC
Ms. Miriam Issakka, member of the GNC and
Mr. Davidson Zigah, Realtor and member of the GNC

The moderator of the council, Mr. Joe Danso, presented the terms of reference to the committee chairman, Mr. Clement Timpo. In response, Mr . Clement Timpo said “ I am very happy that you put together this committee, and I promise you that we will not disappoint you, we will not fail you. We will make sure we have a Ghana House” Mr. Timpo continued “ At my age, I hope this would be the last contribution I will make to the community.”

The mandate given to the committee is to come out within a six months’ time frame a report specifying an appropriate methodology or action plan that will lead to the acquisition of a Community Center (Ghana House) for the Ghanaian community in the Chicago Metropolitan area.

The terms of reference to the committee includes the following:
1.A Private Capital Venture-ship;
2. A Community Center with various activity Halls, where two or more alternate events could take place concurrently without any interruptions from each other;
3. Offices and Meeting Rooms;
4. Adequate car parking spaces; and
5. Any other needs that the committee may deem appropriate.

Reverend Dr. Kofi Noonoo offered special prayers for the realization of the Ghana House dream.
Mr. Stephen Somuah also offered to the committee, his office at the Twin Tower Building,4550 North Clarendon Ave, Chicago, IL 60640 for their meetings.

Members of the Ghanaian community are proud of the achievements of the Ebenezer Antwi-Nsiah and the Paa Kwasi Sam regimes for taking steps to rescue the GNC from the chronic financial losses over the years. Many are hopeful that with the help of the community, the current members of the council would be able to make the Ghana house dream a reality.
