Health Ministry issues alert on strange disease

The Ministry of Health has issued a health alert over a strange disease which has claimed the lives of eleven people in Liberia.

To this end, it has increased surveillance at all levels.

The Ministry says it received information from the West African country that at least nine others have been infected by the disease.

The symptoms reported by the victims mainly are headache, weakness, diarrhoea, vomiting, mental confusion, abdominal pain and fever.

In a statement, the Ministry which did not give any name to the disease said all efforts are being put in place to prevent importation of the strange disease to Ghana.

These symptoms are close to the signs and symptoms of Ebola, a highly infectious disease that caused worldwide attention recently when it spread in some Wes African countries killing thousands of people. The signs and symptoms of Ebola are :
Symptoms of Ebola include
•Severe headache
•Muscle pain
•Abdominal (stomach) pain
•Unexplained hemorrhage (bleeding or bruising)

Symptoms may appear anywhere from 2 to 21 days after exposure to Ebola, but the average is 8 to 10 days.
