Burbank IL April 15 2017:The headlines in almost all the major newspapers, bloggers and internet news portals in Ghana this time of year is about Easter celebrations in the “mountains” , that is, the Kwahu traditional area in the Eastern Region . Easter in Ghana is mainly attributed to citizens of Kwahu though it is celebrated across the country. During Easter, most towns and villages in the Kwahu Traditional area hold colorful durbars and town hall meetings to call attention to issues affecting individuals, families, and the development of the Kwahu Traditional area as a whole. Fundraising activities are also a major part of the occasion. Funds are raised to assist new and ongoing projects aimed at uplifting the traditional area. Lately, Paragliding has featured prominently in the celebration of Easter in the Kwahu area.
Kwahu Citizens in the Diaspora, especially, Chicago, has kept faith with the tradition back home by organizing annual dinner dance and fundraising activities to assist in development projects back home. This year’s event organized by the Kwahu United Association of Chicago, took place at the Crystal Banquets ,8900 S. Cicero Avenue, Burbank Illinois. The event was heavily supported by affiliate members of the Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago, GNC. The President of the GNC, Paa Kwasi Sam and some of his Executive members were in attendance.Mr. John Kesse,President of the Okwahu United Association,elder Mr. Stephen Somuah and other elders and members were present.
