Russia vetoes UN condemnation of Syria toxic gas attack

Russia has blocked UN Security Council condemnation of last week’s deadly toxic gas attack in Syria.

It puts a halt to efforts by the West to push Moscow’s ally, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, to cooperate with international inquiries into the incident.

It’s the eighth time that Moscow has used its veto power during the six-year civil war in Syria.

China, Ethiopia and Kazakhstan abstained from the vote, while Bolivia joined Russia in saying no.

Ten countries voted in favour of the text.
