There are reports that infected cows transmit Tuberculosis (TB) to human beings through the consumption of cow milk and meat.
Confirming this to GBC’s Radio Ghana, the Head of Public Health, Veterinary Service, Dr. Bashiru Kikimoto said for the past three years the Service has not been able to inspect and treat milk at production centres.
Dr. Kikimoto cautioned cattle dealers who slaughter their animals outside designated slaughter houses to stop the practice since it is an offence.
Dr. Kikimoto also shared some challenges facing the Service and called for public co-operation to prevent the transmission of T.B. and cancer resulting from the of use of lorry tyres to treat slaughtered animals.
