December 17 2016 Chicago IL : Every journey starts with a first step and so was it with the “BlackStars in Sankofa Saturday Program for Arts Cultural Enrichment” (S.S.P.A.C.E.). With a registration fee of $100.00 each ,attendees were given lessons in some Ghanaian languages such as Twi and Ewe. Other Ghanaian languages were anticipated but there were no volunteers to teach the kids. Besides the teaching of these languages, there were Culture and History; dance and Music; Soccer; arts and craft lessons and mentoring! On top of all these, the kids had free lunch each day of the session! One cannot put monetary value on the tangible and the intangible benefits the kids would derive from the program.
Members of the community were invited to witness first hand, the program the kids went through during the first session! The venue was Mt. Carmel High School, 6410 South Dante Avenue Chicago IL 60637. The CEO of the organization is Akua Agyeman. Refreshments were served to all attendees! The lenses of sankofaonline were there to bring these images to you.
