The Deputy Minister of Education in charge of Tertiary Education, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has revealed that the Prof. Adimado led Expert Panel will be reassessing Cape Coast and Tamale Polytechnics for their conversion to technical universities.
The Minister made the revelation on his Facebook page Monday . “President Mahama to launch his Technical Universities initiative at Takoradi Polytechnic tomorrow. Meanwhile, the Prof. Adimado led Expert Panel will be reassessing Cape Coast and Tamale Polytechnics on the 5th and 8th of April respectively based on their applications for reassessment. I wish you all a great week,” he posted.
It will be recalled that students and staff of the Cape Coast Polytechnic staged a series of demonstrations register their displeasure at the exclusion of the institution from the list of the six polytechnics to be converted into Technical Universities in September 2016.
According to the students , Cape Coast Polytechnic was ranked sixth by the Technical Committee Report on the Conversion of Polytechnics into Technical Universities and so they did not see why it could not be part of the six selected to be converted into technical universities.
The students blamed the Deputy Minister for sidelining their institution in favour of Ho Polytechnic, which was ranked seventh after the Cape Coast Polytechnic.
