Police in the northern region have arrested one of the assailants who shot and killed a police officer at Sawla yesterday (March 25).
The suspect is part of a group believed to be armed robbers operating between Ghana and the Ivorian border.
According to information gathered, the policeman, believed to be in his early 30’s and two others were on patrol duties when the incident happened.
The two armed robbers, who were fleeing after a robbery, ran into the police officer standing by his motorbike.
Suspecting the police officer had been hinted of their robbery, the two opened fire shooting him twice in the chest. They later fled through the market out of the town.
Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana, the Sawla Kaba Tuna Divisional Police Commander, ASP Francis Numadu, said after giving the robbers a fierce chase one of them was arrested adding that, a weapon was also retrieved from him.
