2016 Chicago Kwahu United Easter Dinner Dance and Fundraising!

Chicago IL March 26 2016: Easter in Ghana is mainly attributed to Kwahu Citizens. It is a period where most towns and villages of the Kwahu Traditional area hold colorful durbars and town hall meetings to call attention to issues affecting individuals, families, and the development of the Kwahu Traditional area as a whole. Fundraising activities are also a major aspect of the occasion. Funds are raised to assist new and ongoing projects aimed at uplifting the traditional area.

Kwahu Citizens in the Diaspora, especially, Chicago, has kept faith with the tradition back home by organizing an annual fundraising and dinner dance to assist in development projects back home. This year’s event took place at the Holiday Inn,5616 N Cumberland Avenue Chicago Illinois. The event was well attended. Affiliate organizations of the Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago, GNC, came in their numbers to support the Kwahu United Association. Nana Kwabena Asamoah, Ohemaa Akosua Asantewaa, Chief and Queen mother of the Okwahu United Association respectively, the President of the Association, John Kesse, elder Mr. Stephen Somuah and other elders and members of the Association were present.

The President of the GNC, Mr. Ebenezer Antwi-Nsiah and his Vice President, Paa Kwasi Sam, Organizing Secretary, Steve Dei and other executive members were in attendance! Nana Addae Baffour and Ohemaa Amponsah of the Asanteman Association , Togbe Addo, Ewe Association, Nana Yirentsi Bonsu,Okuapeman Association, Nana Afua Dansoa, (Gladys Darkwa Tackey-Otoo)Fante Benevolent Society and other chiefs and queen mothers in the community would not be denied the acclaim at the event. The highlight of the program was a dance competition for Miss Kwahu of the year. Berlinda Kesse Sintim and Esther Lartey “ Mercedes”, emerged joint winners. The cash bar was listed on the event ticket as an open bar! There were free wines served however on each table. The event was emceed by Mr. Henry Narty.
