Police Commander interdicted over cocaine bribery scandal

The Police Service has interdicted the Police Commander for Akim Oda in connection with the latest cocaine bribery scandal.

Chief Superintendent Ampofo has been accused by his subordinates of taking huge sums from drug suspects and releasing them without trial.

In one instance the Police Commander reportedly threatened to transfer another officer who refused to take his share of the bribe he received from some drug dealers.

He is also accused of taking 33,000 Cedis from other suspects arrested by the patrol team and promised to give a substantial part of the money to the IGP.

The action of the Police Commander, according to sources, has led to a boost in narcotics trade at Akyem Oda Old town.

The Deputy Eastern regional Police Commander, ACP James Azuma Abass Abaah has confirmed to Starr News that the commander has stepped aside in order for investigations to go on.

Meanwhile, Superintendent Ebenezer Ampofo has declined to speak on the allegations against him. When contacted by Starr News, he said some of the allegations raised against him are before court and will only speak after a ruling is made.
