RE: GOVERNMENT RESPONDS TO NANA AKUFO ADDO’S CLAIMS ON EX-GUANTANAMO BAY DETAINEES (THOUGHTS OF AN ORDINARY GHANAIAN)

I have come across a Government statement signed by Dr. Omane Boamah, Communications Minister, making the rounds on social media and elsewhere that purports to respond to some salient legal and moral questions that were raised in comments made by Nana Akufo Addo, the Flagbearer of the NPP on the Guantanamo Bay ex-detainees that the Government of Ghana has “agreed” to further detain in this country for two years.

In its desperate attempt to shift goal posts and to justify an obvious embarrassment, the Government of John Dramani Mahama has further exposed its state of confusion and its penchant to disregard the constitution that John Mahama swore to protect.

The minister alleges that Nana Addo did not provide any proof of the “reasonable grounds” for refusal of entry into Ghana for the two persons. The following questions arise;
1. Is John Mahama and is government ignorant about the fact that Bin Latef and Al Dhuby were trainees at the The Al Farouq training camp?
2. Is John Mahama and his government ignorant about the fact that four of the 9/11 hijackers namely Saeed al-Ghamdi, Ahmed al-Nam, Wail al-Shehr and Waleed al-Shehri, were all trainees of this famous training camp?
3. If there were no reasonable grounds of suspicion, why are two being held in national security custody? Why did the senate of the USA vote by vast majority not to allow detainees on America soil?
There has been willful neglect and crass disregard for the constitution and laws of Ghana, the president continues to break the oath he took and may be setting himself up for impeachment in any serious democracy.

Article 75 says that all “treaties, AGREEMENTS and conventions” entered into/executed by the President SHALL require parliamentary ratification. If the argument is that there was no agreement, treaty, or convention, I dare ask; was this an imposition? Or has Ghana become a puppet state and a dumping ground under John Mahama?

In conclusion, Nana Addo human rights record is impeccable and it is a struggle he will never stop. In seeking the high office of President of Ghana, Nana Addo’s first and foremost commitment is to the good people of Ghana. It is their security, freedom and prosperity that remains his top most priority. Under him Ghana will once again become a relevant player in the comity of nations, knowing that there is to way to navigate the waters of international relation without threatening our own sovereignty and risking the security and development of your own country.

John Mahama lied to the good people of Ghana that extensive consultation was done. Even senior cabinet ministers like Interior Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister and Justice Minister and Attorney General have said publicly that they were not fully involved and informed about this matter. John Mahama must therefore carry this burden of shame alone, he must not try to bring in anybody, particularly and especially, the patriotic and peace loving Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo.
